Make Up Series: March’s Make Up Basket

Hey guys!!

I can’t believe it’s already March! I was telling my classmates when March came around that we’ve completed 2 months of nursing school and this week, we have our 2nd wave of finals. Yeah…right? 2nd wave of finals? We’re not even talking about midterms here. 😉

Anyway, I wanted to try something new with the make up series, and I hope I can keep up with this…less I forget. I wanted to do a quarterly make up basket. Now, before you think — eh? Follow with me for a second and I’ll explain. The idea came as @SereinWu via YouTube always does Make Up Bag Mondays where she has a rotation of make up that she would test out and use for the week to determine whether she likes a product or not. Some are newer products, others are those within her make up collection.

Now, I don’t obviously have as much make up as many YouTube vloggers, but I do have items that I find that I’d like to rotate more. I won’t be rotating my make up weekly. However, I’d like to rotate my basket (aka bag) on a monthly basis. Obviously, if my make up series blog consisted of just my make up basket, well, you as my viewers would get pretty bored with me. So I’m going to switch up a lot of times 5-5 make up looks (and maybe there will be one this month….when I have some time…), a review of a product that I’m trying out, and this my make up basket of the month.

So last week, I picked out the items in a jiffy, but it’s enough for the month. These are all products you’ve all seen before, nothing new. I will say though that, I’m surprised that wearing a fairly light layer of the Shiseido Synchro Skin to clinical rotation was CRAZY (in a good way)!!! Of course, I did actually spray the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray. It lasted 12 hours. 12!!! My eyeliner started stinging my eyes before the foundation started looking greasy on me. O_O… That’s bananas.

Now, I haven’t used the Shiseido Synchro Skin in quite a while. I think during the winter season, I used it once, maybe twice tops. I’ve been rotating the MUFE Water Blend and the Tarte Air Brush Amazonian Clay powder foundation. I’ve also been testing out another foundation (yeah…I know…but it’s decently priced, let me know if you want me to review this — I tested the Clinique Superbalanced Foundation, priced at $25 in the US). So, I thought it was high time to put this bad boy back into my rotation, and I am so glad that I am. So, my only foundation that I’ll be wearing for the month of March.

I didn’t put a concealer in rotation because I haven’t been liking concealer. I find that for really long class days, the concealers make my under  eye area incredibly greasy despite powdering below, so instead, I’ve just been using foundation to cover that area. If anyone has a good way to deal with greasy under eye areas, please let me know your tricks of the trade…because, it aint working for me.

You all know that I love the Shiseido loose powder. While I’m a pressed powder kind of moment where I had used my Shiseido pressed powder (which I LOVE), this bad boy has been neglected a bit, so I put this in rotation. When I’m not needing my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, I use this. It works and I love it, so I wanted to use this again.

You all know that my ride or die bronzer is the Shiseido oil free bronzer in light. This means that I would neglect my purchase from last year, the cult favorite for quite a while a few years back, which is the Balm Cosmetics Bahama Mama. I use this as a bronzer, but it also works for a light contour if I decide to go that route. I have yet to try it as an eye shadow, it’s a bit dark for me to try, so I don’t know if I’d use it as that. If I do, I’ll let you know.

As you all can see, no blush. I’ve been liking not using blush lately because with a light layer of foundation and a natural capability to blush, I sometimes opt out for this.

For the eyes, I am using one of my all time favorites, the Nyx Tres Jolie gel eye liner in brown. Having worn this at a 12 hour rotation in the hospital, minus the fact that my allergies for the year has started, stung my eyes a bit. So my plan is to wear this when I’m not having long days like clinic rotations. It’s still a favorite of mine, just, not for super long days as that.

Also, another favorite that you all know is my Maybelline Falsies mascara. It’s been one of my favorites of the drugstore since last year and I do want to use it up soon as we all know, mascaras aren’t meant to last that long, so….this bad boy needs to be used up or tossed out soon. Don’t you all wish mascaras can last longer?

Lastly, for the brows, I am giving my Anastasia Brow Gel a break and giving an older product of mine some love. It’s the Tarte Amazonian Clay waterproof brow mousse in Rich Brown, and I got this a while ago, but haven’t used it very much. A little of this goes a long way, and let me tell you, this guy lasts for ever. I didn’t even make a dent in this and I believe I’ve had this for a year. While I haven’t used it as much as my brow gel, this gives such natural brows when you use a very light hand. My brows have a lot of hair, so I don’t have to use as much as some may have to. However, it can become Instagram brows in very little time. Guess who doesn’t want to do that? [I’m pointing at myself, because I’ve done it before]

And that’s all that’s in my little make up container. This container is a $1.50 container from Daiso. Can you all tell that is sort of my favorite store to go to these days? Thankfully there’s one sort of close by to me…and I do mean…sort of.

Anyways! Let me know what your thoughts are on a make up month basket. As you can tell, I tried to keep it minimal to match the concept of a 5 product in 5 minute make routine. I have 6 total items in my basket, and am looking forward to using these for March. Stay tuned till May to see what’s in my basket then. Again, I’ll be rotating out my basket each month, to give my products some love and use. I’m thinking about maybe putting up pictures via my Instagram (@PHPortfolio) of what I’m using for the month, so feel free and check it out there.

Again, I’ve been testing a few things out, so if you want a review on some of the itmes I’m trying out, leave a comment below and I’ll see you all next week with a Nursing Series blog. 🙂

Ciao bellas!
